Founded and affiliated to the G.U.I and I.L.G.U. in 1996, Swords Golf Club, an equal rights mixed club, plays at Swords Open Golf Course.

The facility was founded in 1991 and was originally a 9 hole course with the Broadmeadow River as a significant feature. It was extended to 18 holes in 1996 and underwent a further alteration with the addition of 6 new holes in 2003 when the course was redesigned during the development of Roganstown Golf Club.

The course itself would be described as parkland with a par of 71. It has a nice mixture of holes. The Broadmeadow river encroaches on five holes which makes accuracy from the tee a distinct advantage. On the back 9 the two lakes which are heavily populated with wildlife often cause much consternation as they feature on 3 holes which if played well will often result in a good score.

The 16th hole is the feature hole on the course, with its undulating fairway and two-tiered green. It is protected on both sides of the fairway with trees and there is out of bounds on the right hand side to avoid.

Both the men’s and ladies clubs participate in national and regional competitions throughout the year while also hosting their own club competitions. A number of the major competitions are held jointly by both clubs and the socials that follow are a great way for members to make new friends.
